no birthday girl

my cell group had a casual sharing and praying meeting yesterday and we were also suppose to celebrate emily's birthday, but the sad thing is... she never made it to cell group. so we still ate the cake and cat volunteered to bring a piece of the cake to emily... happy birthday emily!
we had lots of funny conversations last night. someone made a comment about brian being a "guy guy".. so we started asking questions about what makes a guy more of a "guy guy" and what makes a guy just a guy? and if there is such a thing as a "girl guy"? and we also talked about how guys and girls differ in the ways they deal with emotions...
of course, ,we never came to any conclusions except that guys in gereral are simpler than girls. poor brian, since mike was out of town, he was the only guy to defend for man-kind..

weekend in LA

drove down to LA for the first time by myself.. it was a good trip... listening to music and thinking about things.
visited jen at her new house and had dinner at this japanese ramen restaurant. i felt a little culture shocked with all the chinese writings, shops and people...
on the way back to torrance, i witnessed 3 major accidents within 2 miles on San Gabriel Blvd. one of the cars hit a pedestrian and his body was just on the ground with his face down.. that image is still quite haunting.. so scary..

later that night we went to mark's place to hang out. brand and nick were playing not one but TWO chess games at the same time.. talking about being nerdy...

busy weekend

Sat. bunch of us went to Scharffen Berger factory in Berkeley. the chocolate was okay... people wearing their hairnets were funny and i realized i have a thing for lines... a lot of the pictures i took from the chocolate factory were pipes and roof tops.

For dinner we went to Blue Nile, an Ethiopian restaurant, and ate until we were about to explode. Something new i tried was the Honey wine. it has a light alcohol content with a strong honey flavor. it was very good but easy to go overboard since i have a low tolerance for alcohol.

afterwards, we went to Fenton's for ice cream. yeah, for reals. Eon was so excited that he made up a song about eating ice cream while we were walking to the store...

Sun. i hosted a dinner at my apt. for a few friends... i cooked up two mounds of Korean B.B.Q. and a huge thing of tofu pot. Amazingly, there were no leftovers. =)

later on that night, half of the people went to play ping pong next door while the rest of us stayed and played a friendly game of poker.
i also learned how to play Gin Rummy.. i have been wanting to learn for a long time because i always see Matlock (one my favorite shows) played Gin with his daughter and it look like fun. So after 4 or 5 rounds of Gin last night, i think i got the hang of it.

moving on..

after few weeks of packing and unpacking i'm finally settled in.... everything is in their place and working just fine. as i went back to my old place to do a last run through, i felt a sense of sadness,i felt like this physical move was an indication of an emotional move for me. there were lots of happy memories in that apt. and having to move out this time was something i definitely didn't expect, but by God's grace, i am where i am. I can only trust in His sovereignty.
